On May 30, Clair Block, owner of Lex Court Reporting Agency, visited Plaza College to speak with court reporting students about freelance career opportunities. The workshop was offered twice in the afternoon on the Commons to discuss what awaits after graduation.
Lex agency has been in business for 25 years and has offices in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, Long Island, and Westchester. The agency has earned a Woman Business enterprise award for their service.
According to Block, the advantages of being a freelance reporter is that you make your own schedule. She encouraged court reporting students to finish school strong and consider the many options available in the profession. She added that Lex agency trains interns and has hired them to work for the agency to handle depositions, arbitrations, hearings, and EUOs (examination under oath).
