Roxanne D.
Patient Information Management, B.B.A.
Class of 2018
OBGYN Office Administrator
Northwell Health
BEFORE PLAZA
Prior to attending Plaza College, Roxanne D. was working on Wall Street at Broadridge Financial Solutions. Each day was filled with client phone calls that lacked a sense of connection.
As a people person, Roxanne wanted to interact with clients in a more personal capacity. She wanted to have a positive influence in their daily lives.
When Roxanne heard of numerous jobs within her field being outsourced, she started to worry. She explains, “I felt as though my job security was slipping away, I needed stability.”
WHY SHE CHOSE THE MEDICAL FIELD
Upon researching options for a career change, Roxanne became inspired by the medical field. She was excited by the opportunities she read about, so she began looking into local schools.
One day, during her commute, the sign for Plaza College caught her eye. She decided to inquire for more information and was pleased to learn of the Health Information Technology program.
While at her first meeting, she enrolled in classes and began her journey. She recalls, “Everyone was very supportive and I knew this was a step in the right direction.”
HOW SHE USES HER DEGREE EVERY DAY
As an employee of Northwell Health, Roxanne feels that Plaza prepared her in various ways to enter the world of patient care.
“I was more than prepared to begin working for Northwell. My professors enforced the importance of professionalism. They kept me on my toes with deadlines, which made me more responsible.”
WHY SHE ENCOURAGES OTHERS TO CHOOSE THE MEDICAL FIELD
Since transitioning into the medical field, Roxanne feels that her opportunities have grown tremendously.
“If you feel stuck in your current job, you’re not. You can create a new path for yourself. Switching careers opened so many doors that I didn’t know existed.”
