Plaza honored Medical Assistant Recognition Week in October with guest speakers and a workout on the Commons! From October 16-20, students and staff showed appreciation for the outstanding work medical assistants perform to support medical providers and care for patients every day.
The celebration kicked off on Monday with a visit from NYU Langone Medical Center. Representatives met with more than 40 students to discuss career options at NYU Medical.
On Tuesday, a College Hour presentation featured guest speakers including recent graduates, Doctors of Plastic Surgery general manager Arun Thomas, Doctors of Plastic Surgery director Patrick Pargas, and Dr. Christine Antoldi, owner of Forest Hills Chiropractic and Wellness Center.
Their presentation provided MA students with information about what employers are looking for in an externship and how to land a job as a medical assistant, including relationship building, professionalism, knowledge of the MA field, time management skills, and understanding MA career goals. As Dr. Antoldi explained, “Externships have become an essential piece of the educational experience for MA students. MA externships help students build their resumes for employment or graduate study after graduation.”
The celebration continued on Thursday with a Zumba workout on the Commons offered by 24 Hour Fitness. Students and faculty enjoyed a spirited workout as well as healthy snacks.
Special thanks to Career Relationship Manager Alpa Patel for planning the week’s events!
