Plaza College Toy Drive for GMHC

Since December 2013, the Plaza College humanitarian efforts reached many in need across the five boroughs. As always, the students, faculty, staff, administration, and alumni of Plaza College have proven to be the most generous college community possible.

Just check out the numbers below and think of all the people we’ve helped. Let’s keep aiming higher and giving back!

DECEMBER 2013:

*We collected 262 cans of food for the St. Francis Food Pantries of Brooklyn. That food was distributed to many families in need around the Christmas holidays. Check out the website for this wonderful organization here: http://www.stfrancispantries.org/

*We collected and wrapped 46 brand new toys for children in need across the New York area. These toys went to the GMHC (Gay Men’s Health Crisis) in Manhattan and were distributed to children of families suffering from HIV and AIDS.  Read all about the great work of the GMHC here: http://gmhc.org/

FEBRUARY 2014:

*In celebration of VDAY, the International Movement to end violence against women and young girls, Plaza College raised $700.00 on February 13, 2014, for the organization Safe Horizon. This organization, located in the Bruson Building in Jackson Heights, provides resources for women and children trying to escape domestic violence.

This money will literally help provide clothing, shelter, and food for families who find themselves with only the shirts on their backs after they leave an abusive household.
