Social Media Workshop Spotlights Students’ Online Presence

February 14, 2018

Last week, Career Services offered a social media workshop for students to better understand how to use social media to their advantage in the job search process. Career Services presenters spoke about how to showcase professional photos, add thorough job descriptions, and include volunteer experiences and languages spoken. She also introduced techniques for growing a professional network by connecting to people in related industries, following influencers, asking for recommendations, and writing recommendations for others.

Part two of the presentation contained important advice on keeping a professional social media presence:

  • Keep all profile pictures clean and professional
  • Set social media accounts unrelated to job searching on private
  • Stay off personal accounts while at work or externship
  • Never post confidential information or complain about patients or clients
  • Always check spelling and grammar
