Good morning Board of Trustees, President Callahan, Chief Callahan, The Callahan Family, Administration and Faculty, Students and Families. It is an honor standing before you today and addressing Plaza College’s 100th graduating class. Congratulations class of 2017!
Today we create an unforgettable memory, and the beginning of a new journey. It’s almost unbelievable how the days went by faster than we ever imagined. We have come a long way to make it this far, and now we are here – graduation day. And why are we really here? Graduation day is the day we all enter a new world of independence. And of course, it is also a day that we celebrate our achievements, our hard work, and dedication that led us here.
In honor of this exciting time, I want to share with you one of the most inspiring quotes that has motivated me, Nelson Mandela said, “It always seems impossible until it is done.” I believe that this quote is true, because there have been many times where we all have felt so overwhelmed and struggled in most of our assignments, that we thought it was impossible to complete it all in such a limited amount of time. But, one thing that my family has always told me was, your eyes may be scared but your hands are doing the work, and after you start it all does become possible.
Before I enrolled at Plaza College, I had just finished high school and was clueless as to what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. My mother’s good friend, who introduced me to the medical program here, guided me and I’ve grown to have a passion for it ever since.
Throughout our journey here at Plaza, we all had to overcome many challenges just to be one step closer to this day. Late nights studying, submitting work on time, and trying our best in all our classes may not have been so easy. There were moments when we felt like giving up, but had to stop and remind ourselves as to why we need to continue.
Because of Plaza College, we have become someone completely different then who we were as freshmen. We have gained so much knowledge about our fields, our interests, and ourselves and have grown to a great extent. For medical students, it may have been reimbursement class that was the most challenging. And the portfolios! For business students, it might have been marketing class. And the portfolios as well!
We have developed not only as students, but also as individuals. Plaza College has accepted each and every one of us, encouraged us to do our best, and shown us the way to becoming well-rounded people. Of course, we wouldn’t have come this far without the love and support from our families, the motivation from our professors, and help from the amazing friends we’ve made along the way. Most importantly, we proved to ourselves that we CAN do the impossible if we really wanted to.
Although we will be moving on and going on our own paths, we should never forget that our experiences here at Plaza have only made us stronger and ready for the real world, because that is what we achieved together. We should also remember that, just because this part of our journey ends here, we still remain friends and always keep that close connection with each other.
I want to end with these inspiring words from Michelle Obama who said, “Push for the never-failing miracle of progress.” Congratulations Plaza College, Class of 2017! WE DID IT!
