HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (AAS)

The healthcare sector is the U.S.’s largest employer, and that doesn’t just include clinicians – like doctors and nurses – that work hands-on with patients. Healthcare is about better patient outcomes from all angles and departments of hospitals and organizations.

Behind the scenes, there’s a team of professionals called Health Information Technicians doing their part through managing patient information. Health Information Technology is the use of electronic databases and systems to ensure the quality, confidentiality, security, and accuracy of patient information throughout the healthcare industry. The work that HIT professionals perform each day is in an effort to expand access to quality care, reduce healthcare spending, and improve patient outcomes.

YOU MIGHT LIKE THIS PROGRAM IF:

  • You want an exciting career in the healthcare field but want to stay hands-off with patients.
  • Beginning your career in only about 2 years is appealing to you.
  • An advanced credential that increases your marketability to employers is something you’d like an opportunity to earn.
  • You’d eventually like to obtain your bachelor’s (or master’s!) degree, but earning your associate’s and getting some work experience under your belt first sounds like a good idea.
