On December 14, the School of Dental Sciences held its second White Coat Ceremony in honor of its 2019 Dental Hygiene Class. The ceremony signifies a point when dental students officially complete the preclinical portion of the curriculum and transition to clinical patient care. A very special gathering of family members, friends, faculty, and administrators celebrated as professors assisted students in donning their dental hygiene student practitioner’s white coat for the first time.
Director of the Dental Hygiene program Dr. Laura Sleeper says, “For our second cohort, this is a simple ceremony that really means so much. To put on that white coat transforms you into a professional.” In her address to attendees, she continued to remind students that donning this coat represented a serious obligation to their future patients, uncompromising standards and ethics in their practice, along with a dedicated commitment to the dental hygiene profession.
February is National Children’s Dental Health Month. Stay tuned for more updates from the Student Life Department on how Plaza parents can bring in their children for cleanings, gift bags, and other fun activities we will be hosting along with the Dental Sciences Department!
