REAL STORIES ABOUT REAL GRADUATES
Just think; this could be you!
Mirtie B.
Medical Assisting, A.A.S.
Class of 2018
Medical Assistant
Northwell Health
BEFORE PLAZA
As a young girl, Mirtie knew that she wanted to have a hand in helping people. She was drawn to the medical field, but obstacles in her personal life held her back from continuing her education.
She was working as the director of a furniture company when she noticed a sign for Plaza College’s Medical Assisting program while riding the train!
WHY SHE CHOSE THE MEDICAL FIELD
When Mirtie researched Plaza’s Medical Assisting program, she knew this was the right path for her. Without hesitation, she felt ready to begin her journey into a field of helping others.
Through her studies, the life she had imagined as a child was becoming her reality. Learning skills such as phlebotomy, billing and coding, and reading EKGs was stimulating. She exclaims, “I loved my time at Plaza!”
HOW SHE USES HER DEGREE EVERY DAY
After graduating with a degree in Medical Assisting in 2018, Mirtie began working at Northwell Health. She shares how her education has set her apart from the crowd.
“Having a degree in Medical Assisting gave me a major advantage against those who try to go into the field without a degree. I am much more prepared for the duties assigned to me on a daily basis. I already knew how to take vitals and prepare the patients before the doctor comes in the room. I work in the orthopedic department, so I often have to bring up MRIs and X-Rays.”
WHY SHE ENCOURAGES OTHERS TO CHOOSE THE MEDICAL FIELD
Mirtie explains how working in the medical field is an opportune choice for personal achievement.
“The benefits are great. It’s rewarding to help people. I get to be empathetic toward people and that makes me feel good. Also, the medical field is one of the leading fields for jobs right now.”
She very highly recommends the medical field to anyone who’s interested in helping people, enjoying a rewarding and stable career, and being an in-demand and appreciated member of a professional team.
