Obama Encourages Single Moms to Return to School

July 18, 2012

Are you a single mother who desires a further education, but is financially unable?  Do you know anyone who fits this profile?  If so, the government is ready to help.

A development by the Obama administration shows commitment to assisting single mothers to return to school.   The “Moms Return to School” Government Grant Scholarship Program (MRSGGS) has not been recognized by many, but is a looming opportunity for women to further their education.

Who is eligible?

The MRSGGS is an extension of the Federal Pell Grant Program.

According to The US Department of Education, The Pell Grant “provides need-based grants to low-income undergraduate and certain post-baccalaureate students…Federal Pell Grants are direct grants awarded through [approx. 5400] participating institutions to students with financial need.”

Within the previous two years, Obama has increased the maximum grant amount to $5,550, with grants being awarded to a receiving individual at least twice per year.

Can you believe that?  With Obama’s devotion to improving education, single mothers now have the opportunity to receive over $10,000 in scholarships.

The bottom-line

The two types of financial aid – grants and scholarships – are essentially interchangeable, considering that grants are need-based, while scholarships are both need-based and merit-based.

Grants and scholarships are the most desired types of financial aid because the money received by the student is not paid back to the government; whereas, loans need to be paid off in following years.

The “Moms Return to School” Government Grant Scholarship is intended to aid single mothers who desire to receive a quality education.  It is available to any mother in need, who seeks to better their future without sacrificing savings during the economic downfall.

This could be the chance of a lifetime, that big break you’ve been waiting for.  Receiving a college degree will open doors to opportunities you never could have imagined.

How will you improve your future?

Remember that eligibility for grants and scholarships is based on individual students.  Make an appointment with one of Plaza College’s Financial Aid advisors today to find out if you qualify! (Note: Applicants must be presently enrolled in at least as a part-time student in order to be eligible.)
