Art Class trip to MET museum
By Professor Tamara Kostianovsky
On June 18, 2011, my class of Art History I and I visited the glorious Metropolitan Museum of Art.
We had a fantastic tour guide who took us around some of the works of Greece, Egypt, and Africa. This was very timely because we had just studied these topics in class and we were able to see the actual works discussed in the textbook in real life.
The most striking of the presentation was probably the temple of Dendur, an original Egyptian temple that was given to the U.S. by the Egyptian government, in gratitude for helping with the rescue of some archeological treasures from Ancient Egypt. The temple traveled to the U.S. disassembled, and each brick was put back together in New York by Egyptologists working at the Metropolitan Museum.
We are so lucky to live in a city where we can take a subway trip to this museum and see original, wonderful art from all around the world! I hope every student at Plaza finds the time for this priceless experience.
Plaza College's Art class visited the internationally renowned Metropolitan Museum of Art and visited the Egyptian exhibit.
