Student Spotlight

November 29, 2020

Ms. Jasmattie Lall is a first semester bachelor’s student in the Business Administration Management Program who also recently received her associate’s degree in Business Administration at Plaza College.

Her inspiration to continue at Plaza College happened after she completed her associate’s degree realizing she wanted to elevate her education saying, “I like the feeling of accomplishment.” Ms. Lall says “everyone at Plaza is just so nice and there is a supportive atmosphere. I should be nervous during this interview but I’m so comfortable right now. All the professors are so nice.”  Professor Allanach says that,  “Ms. Jasmattie Lall has been an invaluable teaching assistant in the Essentials of College Writing class. She is also a bright and punctual student in Composition and Research. Ms. Lall excels at submitting her work before the deadline, engages with the topics in class, and even takes extra steps to make our online synchronous learning experience enriching by speaking up when something seems out of place, willing to offer opinions, and/or advice when appropriate. Ms. Lall exemplifies the highest of standards we wish to instill in our students at Plaza College.”

She particularly enjoyed Professor Byrns’ accounting class and the recognition she has received from the Department of Student Life.  “The more you do, the more you get rewarded so it pushes you to excel further. I was so honored to be part of the Honor Society Induction for all three chapters. I love seeing the Semester Award notification come to my inbox each semester.”  Professor Byrns remarked that, “Ms.Lall was an outstanding student with a pleasant personality. I found her focused and involved.  She worked hard and took her academic responsibilities very seriously. She will succeed in life.”

Ms. Lall originally started her education in Guyana. After high school she entered an apprenticeship in banking for six months. After completing that portion she applied to another apprenticeship in the banking field and spent almost a year and a half there, truly loving the experience. She said, “the program was structured to guide the transition for students from highschool to the workforce. It started with classroom training and the rest of the program was on the job training. After 3 months I transitioned from the loans department to the new accounts department.” The banking field is an area she is definitely interested in pursuing after graduation with her bachelor’s degree.

Ms. Lall is meticulous about getting her assignments completed on time. She organizes herself using Microsoft notes for each class and uses a personal to do list with dates to get things done by. She then checks things off as they are finished. Her favorite junk food is truffle fries but when studying for exams she prefers strawberry Twizzlers. She highly recommends watching “The One Hundred” on netflix saying, “I didn’t expect to like it but I loved it once I started watching. I also love Lucifer. They always leave the end of the season on the cliffhanger.”
