Medical Assisting Students Earn Prestigious RMA Certification
By Seasons staff
Eight Medical Assisting students recently passed the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) Exam. Passing the RMA exam indicates to prospective employers that the MA has acquired essential knowledge in both clinical and administrative areas.
Congratulations are in order for the following MA students: Raymond Cruz, Jr, Bernardina Gamarra-Ramirez, Rose Jackson, Toni McCoy, Valvanera Posada, Ben Stevens, Shaniqua Stubbs, and Yvette Thomas.
Professor Lynn McManus, Plaza’s Medical Careers Coordinator, views passing this exam as highly advantageous, particularly in today’s job market.
“It’s a ‘feather in their cap.’ It gives them an edge over other students in the work force who do not have this credential. A lot of hospitals look for this credential.”
This exam has several other key advantages. It is convenient for the MA students because they can take the exam at Plaza College on the final Saturday of each semester. Furthermore, it is not a computerized exam, which can often be quite tedious. Most importantly, the exam is recognized by the AAMA.

In order to pass the exam, students must prepare most rigorously in their final semester, as the exam assesses all their clinical and administrative skills.
Dean Marie Dolla, Dean of Academic Affairs, was thrilled by these students’ accomplishments.
“These are our first students to pass the exam. We are very excited for them, and we want to encourage others to feel good about taking the exam. These students have done it; you can, as well.”
