FELA

By: Leslie Marino

For anyone who plans to see Fela!, the Broadway musical, I highly recommend that you do some research about it first. You will appreciate this appealing musical more if you get a sense of the character’s background. Fela was a legend in Nigeria. He was a man with many liberal beliefs, and he used his music to speak to the people of Nigeria.

The director and chorographer, Bill T. Jones, did a wonderful job in making the audience feel as if they were a part of the show. When you first walk in to the theatre, you can feel the energy of the music. The stage is part of the shrine where Fela did all of his performances. The music and dance choreography were very impressive. The costumes were very appropriate for the show.

I‘ve seen many Broadway shows; however, Fela captivated my attention in an overwhelming manner. The show was very inspirational, and I enjoyed every moment of it.
