BBA Students Thrive in DECA
By Seasons staff
BBA students who achieve a G.P.A. of 3.0 have the extraordinary opportunity to join Plaza College’s rapidly growing chapter of DECA.
According to the organization’s mission statement, DECA is authorized by The United States Congress, The United States Department of Education and state, district and international departments of education in countries such as Canada, China, Germany, and Mexico. The mission statement also says, “DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in colleges around the globe. The Collegiate Division (Delta Epsilon Chi) includes over 15,000 members in 200 colleges and universities. Collegiate DECA is a student driven organization that values competence, innovation, integrity, and teamwork.”
At Plaza College, DECA’s advisory board is comprised of members of Plaza’s administration and faculty, including Dr. Sibblis (Advisor of the BBA Program), Prof. Eckhardt, and Prof. Murphy.
Last fall, DECA elected new officers for the 2010-2011 year. This year’s new officers are: Elizabeth Rodriguez, President; Vikramjit Singh, Vice President; Takoya L. Chestnut, Secretary; and Franchesca Guzman, Treasurer.
Shortly after being elected, the new DECA officers were an essential part of Plaza College’s holiday event “Giving Back for the Holidays.” They joined Sigma Kappa Delta and Alpha Sigma Lambda in organizing the event. DECA played a major role, as they joined forces with the Salvation Army and sponsored the toy drive.
DECA member Marlen Hunter-Montilla made flyers and helped coordinate the pickup of all the toys collected over the span of two weeks.
After such a meaningful and productive start, the officers of DECA pledge to continue their success in 2011.
